This was a particularly difficult piece for some reason and took me much longer than my usual work but I'm very pleased with the end result. It features 2 male lions in the African Savanna & as you can see, one is a white lion- very rare in the wild but here he's taking a small rest in the slightly secluded patch of the grasslands. I wanted to create a new painting that challenged both my skills and my artistic temperament and this piece sure did both- in this painting that I call "Eyes Wide Shut" I have a pride of lions- the "dad" is sleeping while the "mom" is walking away as the cubs look on to a roaring fire engulfing the Serengeti- this is an example of what's going on in our world right now- how so many adults are either refusing to believe global warming is taking place which is engulfing and destroying certain parts of our ecosystem and how some adults DO realize it's happening but still turn a blind eye to it to make things easier on themselves but our youth- our children are very much aware of it and know what will happen if we don't change course.

With the plight of these beautiful big cats, I was inspired to paint this wonderful close-up of a tiger's face showing a shadow of a burning forest in the tiger's eye. As you can see, I included a slight sad expression to the tiger's eye to show what a terrible loss it truly is to have their home destroyed and in the process these animals removed as well.
